GROSSOLOGY: The Impolite Science of the Human Body

There's a new museum in Frisco that opened a few months ago called the Sci-Tech Discovery Center. Their first exhibit is called Grossology: The Impolite Science of the Human Body. How perfect is that for a 10 year-old boy! I've been wanting to take Little Man to this exhibit for a while and the long holiday weekend provided us the opportunity.

Shooting dust balls up a nostril to show how boogers are made.

The boys got a lesson about how the eyeball works. Then they got to don rubber gloves and touch a cow heart, sheep's brain and a cow eyeball. BLECH.

Life sized Operation!

Learning how the body produces vomit.

And no exhibit about the human body would be complete without learning how poo is made.

Learning why we burp.

Making toot noises.

A lesson about how snot is made and why.

The boys had a fantastic time. I had to force them to leave after two hours. If you have a boy, I highly recommend this exhibit. It was very educational and had high "gross!" factor that kept the kids very entertained.

Counting My Thanksgiving Blessings.

This year we meandered up Central Expressway to McKinney to spend Thanksgiving Day with my sister and her family. I am very lucky that my brother-in-law is a FABULOUS cook who loves to take charge of this holiday and show off his culinary skills.

My job? Show up with desserts. I just popped into Bread Winners and picked up a couple of pies and we were off!

Little Man and the Liebers dog, Benson.

Shelly Lieber looks on as her brother, Mikey Lieber, carves one of the two turkeys we had this Thanksgiving.

We decided to go the non-traditional route this year and got a coconut cream pie, an apple cranberry pie and a carrot cake from Bread Winners.

When we got to my sister's I opened the back hatch of my car where the pies were. The whole bag slid out, turned upside down and fell - splat - on the ground. Fortunately, nothing was too damaged. The coconut cream pie got it the worst. You can see how the pan is a little mish-mashed. It didn't look pretty, but it sure tasted good!

Michael and Mikey Lieber pull out the deep-fried turkey!

It was a beautiful day, we stuffed ourselves on Micheal's fantastic cooking, the Cowboys won and I got to spend the day with my family. It was a lovely holiday and I feel very blessed to have had such a great day! Hope your was equally as nice!

Beary (a.k.a. Larry) is ready for bed.

This is my sister's dog, Bear, which they call Beary. Randy, because he's Randy, started calling the dog "Larry" and now the whole family calls him Larry. How emasculating to have to wear pink pj's. Poor dog.

Minky goes for a walk.

My sister's Bengal kitten, Minky. Because she's so valuable, when she takes her out of the house, she walks her on a leash so she doesn't run away or get stolen. Minky does not like the leash and it's hilarious to watch her do back flips trying to figure out what it is and how to get out of it.

Touring the new Dallas Arts Center

My Mom and her boy-friend at the new Wylie Theater. Sounds weird to say "boyfriend" about a 65-year old man... but "partner" sounds weirder than that. Hmmm. It's just plain weird to have to talk about your parent's love life - period.

Guinness in a juice glass? Hmmm.

I had a small dinner party last night and adter we ate, we decided to play Mexican Train, which is a domino game. My friend, Steve (aka Cenote), got a Guiness out of the beer fridge and asked for a glass. I brought him a cold beer mug from the freezer and he said, "Nah, that's too big. I need something smaller". So he grabbed a small, plastic juice cup from my cabinet.

Okaaaaaaaaaaaay.

Having a Great Day at Great Friends Day

Every year at my son's school they have "Great Friend's Day". This used to be called Grandparent's Day, but I guess too many kids didn't have grandparents who lived close enough to come, so they re-named it Great Friends Day. Which just doesn't have the same ring to it - but whatever.

My mom came up from Georgetown today to attend Jackson's program. The program consisted of each child reading an interview they had conducted with their "great friend" about what they remembered about 4th grade. It was really cute and the kids were so excited to have someone there to show off.

Now, we're back home and we're kicking off the holiday with some kolaches she picked up in West, TX. on the way up here. Delish!

The Silent Treatment

This is an oldie, but a goodie...

The Silent Treatment

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight.

Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 AM ." He left it where he knew she would find it.

The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM . Wake up."

Men are just not equipped for these kinds of contests.

The Trifecta is Complete!

Well, it took an extra week...but I finally had my Daryl Johnston sighting!

This past week the YMCA held their annual "Under the Lights" games. This is when all of the Pop Warner Football teams play in the Highland Park Scots Stadium. Each game consists of a 25 minutes scrimmage game. They divide the field into two parts so there are 2 games happening at once.

Daryl Johnston was there to coach him team this week. We didn't play them, but they were on the field right next to us. So, it took four weeks, but my Cowboy trifecta is now complete. Troy Aikman, Jerry Jones and now Daryl Johnston... we have now seen all the Dallas Cowboy greats on the football fields of Highland Park.

Little Man's team won and the boys had a great time playing in the stadium. I can't believe the season is almost over. We have his last game this weekend... and then it's on to Basketball!
